Anna Faris and Regina Hall Are Back for the Scary Movie Reboot – Hitting Theaters Summer 2026!

Horror comedy fans, it’s happening – Scary Movie is officially making a comeback! Miramax and Paramount are teaming up to reboot the franchise, and the best part? Anna Faris and Regina Hall Are Back for the Scary Movie Reboot, stepping back into their iconic roles as Cindy and Brenda.

Deadline confirmed today that the two fan-favorites will reunite on screen for the upcoming reboot, marking a major throwback for anyone who grew up quoting these movies. Both actresses released a joint statement saying, “We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon—three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”

And yes, you read that right—the Wayans brothers are back, too! Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans, who originally created the franchise back in 2000, are returning to write and produce the new film alongside Rick Alvarez. Michael Tiddes has signed on to direct, and the movie already has a release date: June 12, 2026.

For longtime fans, this is a big reunion. The Wayans said in their own statement, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again… it’s a double reunion.”

The original Scary Movie hit theaters in 2000 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Coming off the wave of Wes Craven’s Scream, the film poked fun at slashers like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, plus The Blair Witch Project. It went on to earn an incredible $278 million worldwide and kicked off a whole wave of parody films. Between 2000 and 2013, five Scary Movie films were released, each packed with outrageous jokes, horror references, and iconic moments fans still talk about today.
